We seem to have reached one of those times in American history where all that can go wrong in government is reaching a crescendo. In fact, if you take a step back and discern the trees from the forest you will see that we’ve come full circle in America, back to, perhaps, far worse conditions than those that inspired the revolution declared by our Founders on July 4, 1776.
The median household income in America is about $50,000. The base salary of the citizenry’s so called “representatives” in Congress is $174,000. “We the People” survive on $50,000 a year, per household, while the fruits of our labor are taxed to lavish four times that amount on each individual member of Congress. Viewing the disparity between the average American and the folks enjoying the “good life” at taxpayers’ expense, it seems pretty clear that we are no longer a people governed by our own consent, but a nation of neo-serfs, ruled by an elite class which taps its subsistence from its subjects.
And, while taxing us as subjects to give themselves a lifestyle at least four times as affluent as ours, the 535 members of America’s ruling class also regulate and limit our every activity, desire, and ambition. Our elected aristocracy make themselves politically stronger and stronger while the bonds they place on “We the People” make us politically weaker by the day and less and less hopeful for the potential of our future. What they may have forgotten is that this is the United States of America, a nation founded by revolution. It’s once again time for a little pruning and maintenance on the “Tree of Liberty”.
