Shortly after he took office it didn’t take long for residents to
figure out that the smooth talking former state senator was in over
his head as the newly elected mayor of Allentown. He had wowed
residents with his campaign, telling everyone exactly what they
wanted to hear, and they ate it up. Allentown was in trouble, and he
was just the man to fix it. His Republican opponent, Bob Lovett was a
retired executive with a solid management background and lots of
executive experience but he lacked Roy’s charisma. I remember
marveling at Afflerbach’s shameless ability to openly crib Bob’s
solid responses in debates and articulate them back as his own
creations. Few seemed to notice and I still recall many of
my “intelligent” neighbors smugly informing me that they knew whom
they were voting for.
So it was and Roy was elected mayor. The problems began to crop up
almost instantly and, as they did, many apologists rushed in to offer
excuses and explanations. Instead of truthful analysis apparent
missteps and miscalculations were glossed over as routine and/or as
understandable. No one was to be alarmed as the local press went to
great lengths to assuage the growing unease many residents were
feeling regarding city leadership. In time, the mayor’s incompetence
could no longer be concealed; the truth was too apparent to be
denied. It is unfortunate that by this time substantial and
irreparable long and short term damage had been done to the city. One
can only wonder if all of this could have been avoided had the press
done their job, and supporters allowed honesty to prevail over self
interest.
Are there parallels to be found between Allentown’s past
experience and the nation’s current situation? Speaking as a
resident, I hope the press and the Democrats don’t turn America into
Allentown.

Oh come on, charisma is everything now. Time to get it in gear, conservative neanderthals. (keep up or get left behind)
Just ask any self-respecting college kid or his professor:
Has anybody ever seen such a slick and well-marketed campagin product ever before as 0-bama’s? Books will be written. Lessons will be learned. (Seriously)
How much more vague does it get, Hope and Change? What the bleep does that mean? BUT HE LOOKED GOOD DOING IT AND SOUNDED SUPER SMOOTH, TOO. When the teleprompter is functioning properly, 0-bama has no trouble reading 98% of the time. That is a legitimate A+ on pretty much any grading scale. Get with it, everyone else did.
He got thrills running up people’s legs, he was declared the smartest AND greatest President EVER even BEFORE he was even elected. Now, one has to admit, that IS impressive. To accumulate such accolade. (i.e., hype – but don’t be a jealous hater)
Nowadays, 0-bama goes on the tube regularly, makes a fool out of himslef with ridiculous analogies and blatant lies — and people still love him! Lots of them in semi-frightening numbers.
He can take over banks and car companies, pass out zillions of dollars to campaign contributors disguised as an “emergency bailout to prevent crisis and catastrophe”, whatever he wants, in a nutshell.
Only the Cult of Personality can do this.
0-bama IS God.
And I think 0-bama is aching for somebody to ask him. I think the mainstream media really wants to, as well, but has figured out the BEST thing to do is to wait until Christmas to bestow that gift of a journalistic lovefest for America’s Savior, Messiah and Kitchen Sink all rolled into one upon the American People. Could there be a better time to do such a piece?
Of course not. Which is why the Progressive Liberals are so furious with all the criticism of 0-bama. It is actually blasphemy.
So now you know. Live by it. Just sit back, relax and start being more charmed by 0-bama. He really is a wonderful man, don’t you know.
Kool-Aid is not REALLY required, just a positive mental attitude.
