It’s always nice to take a little vacation with no news, no TV, no email, no internet, and always amazing to see what crazy things transpired while you were gone. I made a brief trip back from the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania today, taking a break from my annual volunteer work “helping to manage Pa’s white tail deer population”. I had to drop off my son so he could get back to school, and pick up my dog so she could jump back in the truck with me, and spend the rest of the week and weekend at the cabin. Mom and the kids will join us Friday. Monday it’s back to reality.
Speaking of reality…or maybe “surreality”…I took a quick peek at the Mcall.com website and saw that Bethlehem City Councilman Mike Schweder proposed a “new” plan for the approval of “street vendors” like “hot dog guy”, Edwin Padilla. As I read the news, my blood pressure went up about thirty points. So the lily-white imperious City Councilman who lives in a million dollar mansion across the street from City Hall wants to put a committee of like minded lily-white imperious guardians of “historic” district environs in charge of deciding whether an out of work Puerto Rican from the South Side, and a bunch of others likely to be of multi-cultural pedigree, shall be permitted to engage in legitimate “supply and demand” based entrepreneurialism in the Christmas City. I’d better get back in my truck and get back to the Northern Tier woods before reality, or surreality, gets the best of me. I’m sure it will all make more sense when I come back after a few more days amongst the trees…NOT!!!
